Team corratec-Selle Italia was very active in the Abruzzo classic which closed a very busy week

Pescara, 17 September 2023 – A positive day for the Team corratec-Selle Italia riders, who put in a most convincing performance at the Trofeo Matteotti.
The selective circuit of Abruzzo, which featured the classic climbs of Salita Tiberi, Colle Scorrano, and Montesilvano Colle, saw the race light up inside the penultimate lap when, following an attack by Davide Formolo, our Andrii Ponomar launched himself from the group in pursuit.
The leading pair approached the last of the 15 scheduled laps with 30 seconds on the main peloton, from which another UAE Team Emirates rider, George Bennett, started on the counter-attack.
The New Zealand national champion, having caught up with the two leaders, forced his way up the climb, but Ponomar responded and relaunched the action. The group came back together at the top of Montesilvano Colle.
The descent towards Pescara became the perfect springboard for Sjoerd Bax and Lorenzo Rota, who managed to build up a sufficient lead to play for the victory in the sprint, which went to the Dutch rider who won ahead of Simone Velasco, who had come back from the bunch in extremis.
Among the best riders were Valerio Conti and Lorenzo Quartucci, who were able to finish 12th and 13th respectively, with the Lazio rider growing after his many injuries this season.
The next Italian race for Team corratec-Selle Italia will be the Adriatica Ionica Race, from 22 to 24 September.
